I’m not going to go HUGELY into this one, but how can the New York Post get away with this:

Do I really have to delve into any further detail here? Matt Cutts, seeing as you’re even mentioned in the article, I would LOVE your feedback!

What’s wrong with selling a link? Surely selling links directly is the same as selling links via adwords or whatever just without the middleman?

What is the problem with these links ? They ar e being invoked through an external javascript, they are clearly marked as sponsored.
These links are 100% according to Google TOS.

Not that it has to bother anyone, but there is no issue here.
